Situated at the foot of Wulaofeng (Mountain of Five Old Men) in Downtown Xiamen, South Putuo Temple is famous in South Fujian or even throughout the country. It occupies a total area of 258 square kilometers and a construction area of 21,270 square meters. In the central axial line from south to north lie the Heavenly King’s Palace, the Mahavira Palace, the Great-Mercy Palace and the Buddhist Scriptures House. Two sides along the central axial line are the corridors, bell and drum towers, Merits & Virtues Building, Haihui Building, Puzhao Building, Taixu Library, lecture rooms of Buddhist Academy and Buddhist Recuperation House, etc. To the south of the Heavenly King's Palace, there is a Free-aquatic-animal Pool, two Wanshou Pagodas, two pavilions and a lotus pond. And between the Free-aquatic-animal Pool and the lotus pond, there is a Seven-Buddha-Pagoda including the statues of Sakyamuni and Kasyapa. Wanshou Pagoda is eleven-storied typically in the style of South Asian Buddhist architecture.
