As a selected national cultural relic protection unit, it is situated at Hulishan Seacoast on the southern tip of Xiamen Island. It covers a total area of over 70 thousand square meters and over 47 thousand square meters of fortress, with appurtenant works of secret passages, ammunition depot, barracks, government official hall, watch hall on the peak, electricity power well, sewage system etc. The whole fortress is constructed in the form of half bunker and half wall, with a tint of European style and architectural style of Ming & Qing dynasties of China. The two Krupp cannons (only one in existence) of Hulishan Fortress manufactured by Krupp Arsenal Germany in 1893 were both priced at about 80 thousand taels of silver.     Read the article
