It was first built in 970 on the northern bank of the Qiantang River, south of Hangzhou's city proper, to put down tidal waves in the river. What we see today is a brick and wooden structure erected in 1 153. The octagonal pagoda has seven stories and stands nearly 60 meters high. The interior features carved bricks. One may have a panoramic view of the landscape along the Qiantang River from the top of the pogada.    Read the article
